Keirs Travel: Week 53 Update
I’m already about 6 beers in so I hope this makes sense.
It seems appropriate that I only really start doing weekly updates after I have been traveling for an entire year already. Well, i’m trying a lot of things I never tried before so why not.
So i’m in Amsterdam. I haven’t gone into any of the “coffee shops”. I figure I spent so much of my life completely stoned that there is not much of a thrill to be stoned here. So instead i’m trying to get some photos that I am happy with, and I am walking all over the place. Also spending time strategizing, writing blog posts, and generally stressing over living life on the road.
I love that all the streets here are set up for bicycles. And that the boat I am living on has a spare bike that I am able to use. Oh yeah. I’m living on a boat! How cool is that? It was built in 1906 so its 110 years old. Only had 6 owners in that whole time. Originally it was set up to ship potatoes to Belgium. But now its been rebuilt to have enough bunks to sleep 24 people. Its got two bathrooms, and a sauna! The owner, Bernard, It totally cool and if you end up staying here I suggest bringing some red wine and stories to share.
So ok before I go any further here is the crap part of the last week. Still having problems with the following financial issues;
- Coast Capital
I’m not going to bore you with the details. I will save them for future blog posts.
I have found the absolute best place for getting online, having coffee, beer, and food. Is called Kanis & Meiland. Here is the kind of internet speeds i’m getting here. For anyone not familiar with internet speeds. This is likely much faster than you are getting at home. Like this is really freaking fast. And FREE!
So, i’ve been here for the last three days. Tonight is my final night then tomorrow I head to Paris!! WooHoo. I wonder if i can get some random stranger to kiss me while i’m there. I hear thats kind of a bucket list thing to do.
I’m got to say i’m loving staying here in Amsterdam. I would consider living here just for the fact that everyone uses bicycles. It is kind of cold and gloomy right now, but no worse than Vancouver so I think I could live with that. I would really like to come back here in the summertime. I can tell it would be mind blowing!
Today I walked through the red light district. There are no red lights… But there are a lot of sex shops. And a lot of weed shops. And a lot of barely clothed girls showing themselves off for purchase. Can’t say I found any of it appealing. Except for some of the head shops that have some pretty cool knives and lighters. But i’m generally not too interested in getting high, and I never plan to pay for sex so most of its a waste for me.
Anyway. Im going to put a gallery of a few photos I took over the last couple days. I have to say with the overcast skies it’s been hard to get any dramatic photos. But this is what I got.
Going to end the update here. Kind of a bit too drunk to keep thinking. Fortunately I can still ride a bicycle.
Tell me about any amazing places that you have been to in Amsterdam!
