Keirs Travels: Week 54 update. Shit I lost a hard drive.
Or, how I keep shooting myself in the foot.
Another post with out photos. But this time there is a good reason. Last night I arrived in Germany. The plan is to spend two weeks here before heading off to Granada, Spain. I was going to write this post last night. However, as I was setting up my computer I noticed that I couldn’t find my main hard drive. The one I keep all my photos stored on.
I remember packing it in the morning in Paris. At no time do I remember removing the drive from my pack pack. But when I arrived in Germany the drive is gone. Mind you, the drive was stored deep down in the pack so if anyone were to steal it they would need to dig past my camera, which is a much more tempting target. So know it wasn’t stolen.
The end result is that the last month of my photos, everything I shot in Germany, Amsterdam, and Paris, is now gone. I had not done a proper back up for the last 30 days. Fuck.
Not that I felt I had a lot of amazing stuff in the last while, but it still is disturbing that I can’t recollect any point where the drive could have gone missing. I filed a lost item report with the Charles de Gaulle airport in the hopes that I may have accidentally lost the item, and that someone may have turned it into lost and found. Needless to say my hopes are not high.
So once again I am in a position where I have lost a lot of photos. Fortunately the majority are backed up. It still sucks though.
So instead of a nice summary of what I saw in the last week you get another post of me messing up. 2016 has been a shit year. And the last few days keep getting worse. I have no idea if 2017 will be any better, but at this point I am feeling low and like I am running against the wind.
I hope you are all having a better week than I had.
