Burning Man 2017 – My not so amazing experience
Burning Man is awesome
Except in 2017 it wasn’t so awesome for me…
I wish I could say I had the best time of my life at Burning Man this year. Everything was awesome, beautiful, and exciting! The people beautiful, the beer’s always cold, and the Orgy Dome right next door…, that I took the best photos of my life, and met a hundred new friends.
Going into this Burning Man I had a huge level of excitement. I had a plan to spend more time taking super cool photos than I did last year. I had specific camps I wanted to visit, places I wanted to see, and events to attend.
Then everything fell apart. The shopping day was great. Driving in to Black Rock City on Friday and starting building the camp went really well. The second day of build is where things started to spiral. The heat kept rising and the wind never materialized. I kept drinking water but the heat ground me down. I never recovered the whole week.
Normally the wind storms keep everything a bit cooler. I recall only one wind storm all week. Thats really strange for Burning Man. And the lack of wind made the heat even more intense.
The rising sun in the morning would wake me with sweat. From there I would either find a chair to sit in, or participate in the pancake breakfasts. Regardless how much sleep I managed I just could not recover.
So I didn’t take many photos, I didn’t visit other cool camps, and I didn’t really enjoy myself. But the Orgy Dome was right next door.
They say you don’t get the burn you want. You get the burn you need. I’m still trying to figure out how to understand the burn I had. And hoping that next year is everything I want.
For now, here is a gallery of the few images i shot. I think they are all shot the same evening I went on the photowalk with Trey Ratcliff.
