Upheaval – And a new Plan
The Plan was that I would start my road trip on January 23rd. The Plan was that I would be somewhere around Chattanooga right around now. The Plan was that after interviewing people while on the road trip I would spend a long Tropical month in Hawaii editing and posting Youtube videos.
The Plan has not gone according to plan.
I am still in Chicago. I am still packing and selling my belongings. Its time to update The Plan and give a little background.
At the end of January I flew to Victoria, BC to be with my mother. She was admitted into Hospice and fought her cancer to the bitter end. My sister, Aunt, and myself kept her with company in her last days. We watched over her as she declined.
On February 5th, at approximately 5AM, my Mother passed peacefully from this world while she slept. She was first diagnosed with Uterine cancer 6 years ago and never once did she give up hope of beating it. At 76 years old and with a body dissolving from the inside I was witness to a strength beyond what I thought possible.
The unexpected trip to Victoria added an extra month in Chicago. I needed the time to complete packing, storing, and selling. I am the executor for my Mother’s estate and I now have responsibilities back in Victoria. By the end of February I will return to Victoria and get started on settling my Mother’s affairs.
This is usually the point where I give up, allow myself to be defeated, and cancel my travel plans. This time I am going to fight through the setbacks. I am learning that its good to have a plan, but its also good to allow that plan to flow and flex as Life throws problems my way. The US road trip will still happen and Hawaii will still happen. Its possible that the order may change. The timing has been pushed back until I can get things sorted.
For now The Plan is only the next step, then the next one. Right now that means getting things done that are placed in front of me. I will continue posting updates to The Plan.
I will also post details of the November trip to Germany and Ireland.
